Arlington Martin 5, Arlington Bowie 1
Martin senior forward Mandy Burgardt scored three goals, all in the first half, to lead the Lady Warriors past the Bowie, 5-1.
The win kept the first place Warriors undefeated with a record of 7-0 in district 4-5A, and improved their overall record to 12-2-3.
“I thought they played very well,” Martin ciach Knight said. “They were a little rough in the second half, but they hung in there.”
Burgardt and got off to a quick start, as she scored her first goal in within the first three minutes of the game. The Warriors received a typical, strong effort from their star forward, Knight said.
“She’s been our leading scorer for the past few years, and she has an opportunity to break the school’s all time scoring record,” Knight said. “Her hat-trick tonight brought her even closer to that record.”
Led by Captain Anna Lavin and Natasha Anasi, the Warriors rarely allowed a ball into their own territory, giving the offense ample opportunities to score.
“Our defense has been awesome this year,” Burgardt said. “Rachel Schmidt has held our backline together, and she and Natasha always feed me great balls. They’ve been very impressive.”
Lavin and the defense put their stamp on the game when she performed a slide tackle near her own penalty zone to break up the Volunteers’ attack. The play drew several ooh’s and ahh’s from the Martin crowd.
“Typical Anna,” Knight said.
The loss dropped Bowie to 0-5 in the district, and 1-5 overall. With the win, Martin has won eight straight games.

Good luck scoring against Arlington Martin. The Lady Warriors have allowed one goal in 14 games. They've scored 42. Martin (9-2-3) has shut out four opponents and is a perfect 4-0 in District 4-5A. It shouldn't come as a surprise that it had a handful of girls sign scholarships last week.

Heights ahead on chemistry
Fort Worth Arlington Heights is off to a good start on its teamwork, which is a good thing, since the team has only 14 players right now. Coach Bryan Todd said his team is strong but is using only two substitutes (one reserve was hurt last week). The Yellow Jackets, however, have a good idea of how to work together, since they've played eight games going into Friday's semifinal at the Aledo tournament. "We were one of the few teams in the area who were out of town during that first bad weather," he said. "We went to a tournament in Beaumont, and that really helped us with our preseason and chemistry." Heights is 7-0-1 after tying Kennedale on Tuesday and defeating Crowley on Thursday.

"It was a back and forth game," Giocondo said. "It gave us the chance to look at a lot of players. It was a good preseason game, a good tournament."

Mansfield claimed the Rebel Roundup last weekend at the BISD FA/AC with a 1-0 victory against Keller Fossil Ridge in the final.

On Saturday, Fossil Ridge held until a penalty kick in the final three minutes earned Mansfield the victory.
"This was a great step forward for us," Blevins said.

After graduating 13 seniors (and nine starters), Western Hills is starting the season awfully young. The team is made up mainly of freshmen and sophomores, coach Victor Garcia said. Goalazo for Arlington's Nicholson
Arlington sat tied 1-1 with Richland on Friday when Stephanie Nicholson unleashed a blast to give Arlington the lead for good.
The Colts earned a 3-1 victory in the Rebel Roundup tournament but the game was highlighted by Nicholson's "goalazo."
From about 45 yards out the junior utility player ripped loose a shot that soared over the Richland goalkeeper and under the crossbar with 12:08 left in the match.
"I was just hoping to get a foot on it," Nicholson said. "I hit it in the right spot and then just followed through."

Summit (0-1) features nine starters that are either sophomores (5) or freshmen (4).
However, Davis sees plenty of potential in his young group.
"We're a young team that just hopes to improve each week," Davis said. "Hopefully we'll be ready to peak in the playoffs."
